A closer look

Two functional regions of an insulated terminal

LH-I06 addresses pre-insulated terminal termination. Identify the metal barrel and insulation-support construction: the barrel connects the conductor, while the surrounding structure interfaces with the jacket and terminal sleeve. Dies and forming arrangements differ. Ring, fork and blade interfaces can vary while tool compatibility is determined by the termination region.

Connection and selection boundaries

LH-I06 selection concerns pre-insulated terminals. Ring, fork and relevant mating terminals have different equipment interfaces; their wire-end areas still require series-specific tooling checks. Record barrel, sleeve and tooling requirements. Similar colors do not define a universal size.

Ferrules, bare open-barrel terminals and machined contacts are not compatible merely because they fit between the jaws. Check splices and special insulation constructions separately. Ring-terminal pairing does not establish compatibility with all terminals.

Retaining interface details during repair

Before removing a wire, record the interface, orientation and mounting position. Match the replacement to both wire size and stud, fork or blade dimensions instead of purchasing by color. After crimping, install the terminal according to the mating component requirements; completing the crimp does not complete screw fastening or connector retention.

From preparation to assembly

This sequence organizes the task. Use paired component and tool documents for positioning, cycle and acceptance conditions.

  1. Identify the interface: record terminal part number, wire requirements and mounting or mating dimensions; match the die to the series.
  2. Prepare the wire: strip as specified, retain all strands and check insulation diameter against the entry.
  3. Insert and locate: seat the conductor in the specified barrel position; keep wire insulation out of the conductor connection area.
  4. Complete the crimp: position barrel and sleeve as instructed and complete the cycle. Not every terminal uses the same two-zone crimp.
  5. Install and verify: inspect the wire end, then complete the stud, screw or mating installation. Check these connections separately.

Organize terminals by interface

Separate ring, fork and mating terminals, then group each by conductor range and interface dimensions. This clarifies the termination task and reduces the chance of installing a superficially similar but incompatible accessory.

Completion checklist

Review appearance, pairing and final assembly separately, with an inspection basis for each step.

  1. Terminal and die series match; wire and insulation sizes meet component requirements.
  2. The conductor is positioned correctly without lost or stray strands.
  3. The sleeve is intact and the equipment interface is undistorted.
  4. Required retention, pull or other crimp checks are complete.
  5. Equipment hole size, mating fit and fastening are checked separately.

Replacing an equipment wire terminal

Record the original interface dimensions, orientation and wire marker before replacement. Match the new terminal to both wire and mounting. After crimp inspection, review equipment installation and wire routing. A retained wire alone does not complete the entire connection.
