A closer look

Termination and interfaces in a harness

Vehicle and equipment harnesses can combine wire sizes, jackets and interfaces. Some use open-barrel terminals, others machined contacts or ring terminals. Select tooling by the actual contact construction instead of treating the entire harness as one crimp task. LIHENGRIX separates preparation, termination and retention after insertion.

From branch identifiers to connector cavities

For an equipment sensor branch, establish branch identifiers and cavities from the drawing before wire preparation. After termination, insert each contact in its specified orientation, verify retention and complete seals, protection and strain relief. Establish branch length from the assembly requirements rather than stretching the finished harness. Open-barrel terminals require matched forming tools, not a machined-contact indent process.

Recording changes and rework

Retain the pinout, wire and terminal part numbers and assembly orientation. During extraction, use the appropriate method and record the cavity. Recheck retention and required tests after replacement. Colors assist branch recognition but do not replace wire identifiers.

  1. Clear interface or workpiece photographs with component identities and dimensional information.
  2. Wire, tube or rope material and specification, with representative sample conditions where needed.
  3. Working clearance, frequency, existing tools and the specific problem to resolve.
  4. Required inspections and records, including responsibility for reviewing substitutions and changes.
