A closer look

The forming target in copper-ring crimping

LH-X20 addresses the external copper ring around a tube-and-insert assembly. The jaws act on the ring in its specified position. Ear clamps and cold-expansion reinforcing rings use different joining principles. Retain tubing and fitting-system information rather than only a nominal size.

Connection and selection boundaries

LH-X20 information focuses on the external copper ring of a PEX connection. Select tubing, insert fitting and ring within an accepted system before checking tooling size. Equal nominal sizes do not establish interchangeability between systems or tools.

Stainless ear clamps need ear closure, cold expansion expands the tube, and copper press fittings use their own profiles. These differ from this copper-ring workflow. Permitted media, temperatures and pressures come from system documents.

Ring position and jaw seating

Insert the fitting and position the ring by the system instructions before seating the matched jaws. End condition, insertion and ring skew all affect the result, so establish them before applying force. If access is insufficient, revise assembly order or use a permitted tooling arrangement rather than pressing with poorly seated jaws.

This sequence organizes the task. Use paired component and tool documents for positioning, cycle and acceptance conditions.

  1. Confirm the system: match tubing, fitting, ring and tool; prepare instructions and the applicable gauge.
  2. Prepare the end: make a square cut; check damage, distortion and debris, then place the ring as instructed.
  3. Insert and position: seat the fitting as required, locate the ring using system instructions and check alignment before forming.
  4. Locate the tool: seat the matched jaws over the full working region, maintain instructed alignment and complete the specified cycle.
  5. Inspect: use the matched gauge, rework failed connections as instructed and complete the required piping tests.

From ring inspection to system acceptance
